Official MCP servers by category (Oct 2026): 38 vendor-maintained servers

Published 2026-10-18

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets an AI assistant or agent use outside tools: query a database, search the web, read files or manage cloud resources. There are now thousands of MCP servers, and many are hobby projects. If you want something that the vendor itself maintains, start with the official servers. This list shows official MCP servers grouped by what they do.

The data comes from the open-source awesome-mcp-servers list (MIT licence), in a snapshot taken 17 Oct 2026. It has 4,259 servers, and 409 of them are flagged as official, meaning they are published by the company that owns the product. The descriptions are the authors' own one-liners. I have not tested these servers, so read the repo and its permissions before you connect one to real data.

Disclosure: I wrote this with help from AI tools; the list itself is taken from awesome-mcp-servers (MIT). The directory, the API and the PDF are my own projects, and the API is paid per call. No server on this list paid to be included.
